On a stormy morning along California’s Central Coast, intermittent rain seemed to leave the rugged shoreline entirely to us.
An extremely low tide had exposed an old shipwreck resting offshore, and after slipping and sliding my way down the rain-soaked embankment, I found myself standing before a scene that felt beautifully untamed.
Then, almost on cue, the storm clouds opened just enough.
As I wiped the raindrops from my face and camera, a fleeting window of magical light illuminated the weathered vessel, the exposed rocks, and the restless Pacific surrounding them. For a few brief moments, everything seemed to come alive.
Crashing Cayucos is a reminder that beauty doesn't always arrive beneath clear skies. Sometimes we have to wander through the storm, get a little wet, and remain present long enough for the light to find its way through.
Stay for the clearing.
